The purpose of this letter is to ask whether, with your wide range of contacts in the financial and business world, you could suggest anybody whom we might suitably approach, or alternatively, whether you have anybody in the Bank who might be suitable and whom you could contemplate sparing on secondment and what sort of salary would have to be paid to get someone of the right calibre. We have not yet considered the salary, but some indication of the kind of salary that might be appropriate in relation to the salaries of other posts in the Hong Kong Government may be afforded by the following particulars of certain Heads of Departments ( (expressed in sterling and pensionable):-

It looks therefore as though a basic salary something the order of 1,900 if pensionable or something higher if on ort-term non-pensionable contract, but comparable to a asionable salary of that figure, would be the sort of figure

Hong Kong Government would probably contemplate; atriation pay and cost of living allowance in line with

figures quoted above would of course also be payable. If think we should have to go substantially above that sort of re to get a good man perhaps you would let me know. We have
